RIP Jérémy Bobbio (Lunar)

Longtime Debian and Tor developer, Jérémy Bobbio—perhaps better known as "Lunar"—died on November 8. Lunar was one of the founders of the reproducible builds movement and more recently had been working with Software Heritage. More information and tributes in French can be found at this site. They will be missed.

Condolences

The Tor Project has been a light in an otherwise dark world of censorship and suppression of speech, digital communication and the press. I'm happy to say that I've had a non-exiting Tor Relay running for over 16 years now. I didn't know him, but my condolences to Jérémy Bobbio and his family, and to the Tor community for their loss.

Met them at the Reproducible Builds summits in Athens and Berlin a few years ago.
Very sad news indeed. Rest in peace, Lunar.

Lunar was an incredible person, and i miss them deeply, despite getting to see them only every now and then. Creative, thoughtful, smart, and kind but not indiscriminately so. Prickly when prickliness was called for, but also willing to extend a hand or grace as needed. I'll miss their sharp wit, incisive observations, and provocations to be a better person.

The people who work on free software and adjacent projects form a better community for having had Lunar among us. I continue to try to live up to the standards Lunar set.

A great loss. I'm very sorry to hear this.

I don't quite know how to tactfully bring this up, but I was somewhat surprised to read their government name here, given they seemed to avoid it in recent years. I do not personally know Lunar's wishes, but I think given that the name seems to be very consciously omitted from the obituaries written by their friends, it would be generally be respectful to follow their example.

Since this is a news site and not an obituary written by a friend, I think it makes more sense to use their name.
