Curious - did you ever check out the WP-CLI, or was that something that was created after you decided to move to an SSG? Sounds like that would've worked for you without having to keep up with the API.

Of course, if you don't like logging into a web site, blog infrequently, and don't use plugins, etc., a WordPress (or ClassicPress) install is probably overkill anyway.
