If only this were true. It used to have this focus. The whole reason this post exists is that some people have declared war on "just focus on the code". Note that on the last LWN post on this topic, someone was throwing around terms like 'fascist'.

There has to be a balance somewhere between pretending that code is written by robots in a socioeconomic vacuum and spending more time discussing diversity and CoC than programming code.

In practice the pendulum will keep swinging back and forth as it usually does?

No matter what happens, open-source has an amazing evolutionary and longevity trick up its sleeve: forking. Better have too much of it than none at all. The latter has extremely often meant: extinction.
