Parent article: How kernel CVE numbers are assigned
Yes. That is true.
But the bugs and possible vulnerabilities are there, no matter whether you close your eyes or not.

Correct. Pretty much all software is a forest burning to the ground and many people like it for the warm and fuzzy feeling. Unless somebody assigns a CVE to each tree.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. If you're shocked by the number of CVEs, what you should really be concerned with is that the kernel has so many memory issues that nobody even has time to triage them. That's the real problem. But nobody is talking about that.
It's like that joke about turning off the carbon monoxide detector because the constant beeping and blinking is giving you a headache.

Sadly, that's NOT a joke.
We picked up our new caravan a couple of months back, and apparently it really did happen - a guy brought his van in for a service, and the service bloke's reaction was "where's the CO monitor gone?". "Oh we took it out, it wouldn't stop bleating"
Fortunately for that guy, the service bloke asked, rather than just replaced it. They did a gas check, and discovered a leak ...
Cheers,
