I also learned X programming from that manual. I was using
DEC equipment, I forget what they called their workstations...

I wrote a program that would display the grayscale image of
myself I'd gotten as a novelty at a usenix thing I'd recently been
to.

My friend Gregg tried to compile and run it on his Sun workstation,
but it wouldn't go, so he ribbed me about my code not being
portable...

DECstation...? :-)
