> Why not influence the direction of the Mozilla Foundation by making a monetary contribution?

You don't fix a misallocation-of-funds problem with more money

Your donation just underwrites the comp of the existing leadership

I also fail to see how Mozilla's treatment of Rust can be seen as a success...they followed their good luck of incubating the tech by turning the entire team.

LWN's guide to 2024

Mozilla incubated Rust until it became so important that it could continue to flourish without Mozilla's financial help. That's certainly a form of success.

In one way, Mozilla cutting their Rust team actually *helped* Rust: people used to worry about the future of Rust if Mozilla cut that support (sometimes in public as a FUD tactic, sometimes in good faith), and now they don't.
