Fedora packages versus upstream Flatpaks

If an upstream says "they only support Flatpak", they're perfectly right in that. Upstreams are all overworked and you can't expect them to be front-line support and issue tracker for your Linux distribution. Of course, distributions are free to ignore upstream, it is FOSS after all.

But if you're going to do that, make damn sure you take on the front-line of support instead of dumping that on your upstream.

Packaging software for your distribution goes beyond making the bits available. You need to be front-line support for your users too. If you can't commit to that, perhaps don't commit to packaging it.

Distributions that aren't taking frontline support are doing it wrong. As a packager in a distribution, my expectation is that people come to the distribution first for their issues, and then we figure out if it's something to bug upstream about. The only exception is when the upstream wants the distribution issues reported to them directly (like KDE does, for example) and accommodates identifying distribution sources when filing bugs.
