It takes like two seconds (I know because I just did it right now) to "register an account" in say, https://gitlab.gnome.org/ because it allows you to reuse among other things accounts you may have in github/gitlab.com. So I don't find this a barrier to entry for drive by contributors.

I do find myself torn at such times deciding _which_ of the identity providers I want to use however...

Fortunately these days the only ones that are left outstanding are large enough that they'll probably be around forever.

The question is rather, how long will the identity provider keep your account around.
