Calibre 6.0 released

Version 6.0 of the calibre ebook management system is out.

It has been a year and a half since calibre 5.0. The headline feature is Full text search, calibre can now optionally index all the books in your library so you can search your entire library for a word or phrase.

Other changes introduced since 5.0 include 64-bit Arm support, the removal of 32-bit support, and an update to Qt 6.

Where do you see that? From the download page:

> calibre works on macOS 10.15 (Catalina) and higher.

FWIW, this excludes the same version range that Apple itself has now abandoned.

Apple has also been making it increasingly difficult to target multiple versions of MacOS with a single build or installer.

AFAIK, you "just" set the minimum macOS target to 10.15 (or whatever) and you're all set. Maybe Xcode makes it harder (we don't use it other than to provide the toolchain and SDK). It's what we've been doing for years (though we make separate x86_64 and aarch64 binaries for other reasons, so the aarch64 can get an 11.0 minimum).

Qt 6 only supports to 10.14 anyways. And dropping older platforms probably legitimately reduces the amount of work they have to do.

There's no "installer" for Calibre. Just drag it from the disk image to Applications

Just tried it on Monterey and the dmg shows that cute little slashed circle once it's mounted. He's got a habit of doing this.

Again, I misspoke

Mojave 10.14.6

For those a little less familiar, Calibre is written in Python. No such issues raise their head on Windows
