Perl Steering Council meeting minutes June 24

Present: Rik, Paul, Philippe, Neil

This was our transition meeting, with Philippe joining the PSC, and Neil in his last meeting. We
established last year that it's good to have an overlap meeting, where we discussed "how things
work", and give any departing member(s) a chance to badmouth their colleagues to the incomer(s).

We went through the regular meeting schedule, which will continue to be on Fridays, but at 11am
Philadelphia time, 4pm UK time, and 5pm French time. Philippe gets two weeks of meetings before
he's on the hook for the agenda and notes.

We agreed that there should be a blog post to BPO to announce the new PSC. Neil to draft, get
feedback from the others, and post in the coming week.

We talked a bit about the RFC processes, and gave Philippe edit access to the tracker. We talked
about a few of the RFCs to ease Philippe in.

The proposal for native image support in POD has just about converged. Neil has something to add to
the thread, but we think it will go to RFC soon.

We had a longer discussion around tables in POD. If this were to go ahead, then people would have a
right to expect that a table would show up anywhere they look at POD. Paul will follow up on the
thread, with some of the points we talked around.

We also touched on source::encoding. Rik is going to follow up on this to p5p, which thankfully
means I don't have to summarise the discussion here.

We talked briefly about Sisyphus's email on mingw-64 support[1]. We don't have a feeling on how
pressing this should be – should it be a priority to address for 5.37.2, for example? Paul has
already followed up on the thread, and has merged the proposed patch and released a new version of
Socket to CPAN.

As of 5.37.1, treating empty PATH as unsafe under taint mode leads to new failures on some CPAN
distributions. This possibly needs revisiting in blead, and the affected distributions looking at.
