Anther notable point from the presentation is that the pipe was originally manager Dave McIlroy's idea, although he called it a "garden hose." Also, Thompson banged out the precursor of Unix alone during a 3-week period when his wife was visiting her family, writing an executor, editor, shell and assembler during that time.

Wow, thanks for the great read! I didn't know he invented LOOP language class and proved its equivalency to primitive recursion.
