LineageOS 18.1 released

Version 18.1 of LineageOS, the Android-based distribution once known as Cyanogen, is available. "With that said, we have been working extremely hard since Android 11’s release last August to port our features to this new version of Android. Thanks to our hard work adapting to Google’s fairly large changes in Android 10, we were able to rebase our changes onto Android 11 much more efficiently. This led to a lot of time to spend on cool new features!" Some of those features include in improved voice recorder, a new calendar, a built-in backup mechanism, an improved music player, and more.

I'm excited about the built-in backup mechanism. This is one of Android's flakiest areas, even with Google's services, so something that is more predictable will be quite welcome.

I was testing Seedvault for some time with CalyxOS. Really happy to see that it was now added to LineageOS as well, so there is a Free Software backup solution integrated.

I was looking forward to it but am severely disappointed. Only 25 out of 83 apps I use allow backups.
I kind of expected banking apps to cause problems for pseudo-security reasons but it feels like that everybody forbids backups by default.
Now I still need to keep the device rooted for backup purposes :/

https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/manifest/appli... defaults to true, so apps that cannot be backed up are either old or opting out explicitly.
