When was the last time a cable company broke the DNS of millions of customers? For me, recently (Feb 12 ). Videotron, one of the major ISPs here in Quebec was suffering outages that appear to have been due to DNS. In my case, switching to google (8.8.8.8) resolved things.

My system has been bodged to stick 8.8.8.8 in resolve.conf, precisely because I have repeated had what appear to be DNS outages (I suspect my ISP-supplied router runs DNS and it crashes or burps or whatever on occasion).

Cheers,
Wol
