As an aside, rpm nowadays support sqlite as the DB engine for the package DB, and at least Fedora is planning to switch to it: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Sqlite_Rpmdb

We're not "planning to", we already did - that Change landed fully in Fedora 33.

More important, it works seamlessly. If I hadn't read it here, I never would have known there was a change. That's the goal: the only thing users notice is fewer problems.
