I think that's the conspiracy theorists getting paranoid ...

Of course it depends on the number of computers on your local network, but even if you use your local long pid as part of your local address, that's still 4 billion computers on the local net before you run out of addresses.

Isn't 2^64 thought to be more than the number of grains in the Sahara, or stars in the Universe?

Anyway, how is that supposed to work for a *server*, as opposed to a client, which *needs* to be found or there's no point having it ...

Well, for a server, the well-known address in DNS is used for inbound connections: any outbound connections use transient temporary addresses just like a client would.

Downside: pain for routers. A lot of pain for RBLs (though, as with DNS, RBL for IPv6 remains a bit of a mess...)
