That's a great point. I think it's also worth pointing out that e.g. Nordic's HAL in Zephyr is actually maintained by Nordic themselves: https://github.com/zephyrproject-rtos/hal_nordic

Note that this is also true for STM and NXP HALs, they are maintained by engineers of the respective companies.
