I know, but I wanted to avoid abusing it by sharing it in the whole company or social media.

Our grumpy editors would have to weigh in, but my guess is that abuse means someone publishing free links to every single article as a way around the paywall. LWN subscriber links show up on Hacker News and on social media from time to time, and I haven't seen the editors ask this practice to stop, so I think posting a single link widely is OK.

As long as it is done in moderation, the posting of subscriber links appears to be only good for LWN. It's one of our best ways of bringing in new subscribers. We obviously don't want people to go nuts with it, but it has almost never been problem to this point.
