Dentry negativity

I was thinking that if you were doing a lookup for lib.so, it might have a list of directories where you *wouldn't* find it.

Or the dentry list was "per directory". If you've got more entries in the negative dentry list than there are in the directory, then it makes sense to ditch the negative dentry list completely because it costs more to search the negatives than the positives - and the other responses I've had here imply that that's not true ...
