Thanks! That's a relief.

I guess I misread this from the linked article:
"A huge effort is currently underway to bring the Linux desktop into the future with the help of containerization technologies such as Flatpak."

The mention to Flatpak is because PipeWire's security enforcement makes it possible to allow only limited audio access to Flatpak'ed applications. For example, you can allow an application to playback, but not to capture from a microphone, etc. While the PulseAudio model means that if you give access to an application, it has full access to the audio system.
