From https://www.pwg.org/ipp/everywhere.html :

"A PWG standard that allows personal computers and mobile devices to find and print to networked and USB printers without using vendor-specific software."

Further, in the FAQ https://www.pwg.org/ipp/evefaq.html it says

"The USB-IF developed the IPP USB Specification which allows printers to support IPP Everywhere over USB. Printers supporting IPP USB have been available since late 2013."

(No personal experience though, just copy-pasting from the interwebs.)
