The problem with that is that we could do this for Subsurface, but we'd need to get every project we depend on (and that's under a reciprocal license) to do the same... which seems like an insurmountable hurdle. As I mentioned in the talk - we asked some of the copyright holders in some of those libraries (notice those two 'some's) and they all felt that our approach was acceptable to them. But that's very different from having an actual exception.

I guess that you have multiple copylefted dependencies and that their exception is workable for Signal because they do not.

I wonder if any LWN readers work for Apple and could escalate this issue.
