There's one commercial hybrid closed loop device that was certified in the US and Europe only last year. The rate of development is slow as molasses, obviously in part because they are medical devices that need to be certified. The open source projects get away with stating that they're for educational and informational purposes only.

I didn't mean to imply the certification guarantees the devices would actually be better. Just that it is one reason slowing down development and deployment. :p
