That attendee was Tom Talpey of Microsoft, FWIW. That's relevant because of his subsequent contributions on the mailing list thread leading to the performance anomalies being understood (debug options are your friend unless you're doing performance measurements).

How is the company he works for relevant to his contribution? Giving recognition to the person is fine, but rarely would you see the company being mentioned.

Of course when it's mentioned it's suddenly microsoft, which looks very suspiciously like you were instructed to mention them as much as you can to try and change their image...
