Sadly the outcome of the GDPR hasn't been that websites collect less information. Instead it simply forces you to acknowledge that "these 240 ad cookies are all absolutely essential and you cannot disable any of them, but fine, I'll let you disable these 7 cookies, because we're feeling magnanimous today".

And IIRC that's not only not an exaggeration, but an *understatement*. Yahoo's “GDPR compliance” is a horrific maze of dark patterns where users have to carefully opt out to a list of over 300 third-party snoopers, one at a time, using a UI that doesn't scroll properly.
