If it were up to the community to figure out, there would have been a community discussion before the Code of Conduct was in Linus' tree. It seems *only* the TAB knew this was coming, many maintainers with large subsystems and communities didn't - they don't know where they stand.

This isn't the type of thing that should be rushed, so I think a lot of the reason there is so much concern is because it *has* been rushed.

In any case, if anyone wants to lose some hope for humanity, take a look at the comments on GitHub, where Linux development does not take place, by a bunch of people largely unaware of that.
