Why does openwrt.org not have any announcement of this? The main openwrt.org page has not changed since the announcement for OpenWrt Summit 2016 was posted.

I think openwrt.org is simply going to be replaced with the contents of lede-project.org soon and they just haven't bothered updating it (or haven't been able to due to the slow process that led to the fork in the first place). In any case, it's really good news for everyone. Thanks to all those who made this possible.
