I'm scratching my head trying to figure out what “better alternative to IRDA” is supposed to mean. The only cordless computer thing I've used that comes close to that kind of simplicity and ease of use was a proprietary keyboard/mouse receiver.

Sorry if it was unclear; the point is that infrared receivers (and transmitters) are better supported through the media subsystem; nobody should need IRDA to drive those devices anymore.
