I have a question: the software does not belong to the user, it's licensed for use by Microsoft, right? So how come this is not Microsoft's problem?

Why would that make it Microsoft's problem?

And which problem are you talking about - the problem that people had to pay ransom and/or were deprived of their computers for a while, or the problem that people need to update their Windows?
