Right. The Windows update process is painfull and buggy and it takes a looong time to complete.

The way I deal with Windows updates is to boot linux and use the tools supplied by "WSUS Offline Downloader", get all the windows updates on a USB key, and then install them to Windows before I ever connect it to a network.

It's rare that I have to deal with this though. Usually only when people come to me with a jacked up PC and they want me to fix it.
