What?! "Glib" is actually an English word? I always had the idea it is an abbreviation for "graphic library" or something similar! But now I did learn that it is a play with words!

It's actually non-graphic supporting bits for GTK+. I suppose it could mean "GNOME Library" or "GTK+ Library"... but I've always felt that "glib" was too glib, especially since glibc was there first.
