My firewall refused to bring its default route up when I upgraded from 4.9.6 to 4.9.8: downgrading to 4.9.6 again, with no other changes, fixed it.

I'll see if I can replicate and bisect this on my emergency backup firewall tomorrow.

Who would have thought that all those networking patches and fixes which 4.9.8 more or less consist of could have created a bug

99 little bugs in the code, 99 little bugs.

Take one down, patch it around.

127 little bugs in the code... ;)
