It is interesting to note that this mostly harmless issue (disabled by default in Debian) was fixed quickly while the more serious phone home bug still hasn't seen any progress after over a year of exposure... I have resolved to adding the following to my /etc/hosts, probably a good practice anyways:

127.0.1.1 www-google-analytics.l.google.com stats.l.doubleclick.net clients1.google.com

It is fascinating to see that I *still* have to have doubleclick.net in my hosts file...
