You just described how a substantial (if not an overwhelming majority) of Linux's long tail of hardware support came to exist.

> Why would you want to have a relationship with somebody when the only way you can get them to even talk to you is by threatening lawsuits?

You forget that there's already a relationship -- I already own their hardware, they already have my money.

I merely seek to have the same freedoms to utilize and modify Linux as the vendor; ie the freedoms supposedly guaranteed by the GPL.
