I'd be careful about basing anything on the Mapbox vector tiles because Mapbox do not openly license those - they consider the selection of what data appears in the vector tiles proprietary and are currently making legal threats against people who have attempted to create compatible vector tiles that provide the data needed for Mapbox's (openly licensed) styles - see https://github.com/osm2vectortiles/osm2vectortiles/issues... for one example.
Basically if you build a style on the Mapbox vector tiles you won't be able to switch to another data provider without rewriting the style because nobody else will be able to provide compatible vector tiles.
