Distribution quotes of the week
The nature of distributions is competitive. It’s inevitable, and arguably healthy for innovation. I don’t see competition as a problem within itself. But at the end of the day, we’re all doing the same thing, just different in some ways. There are plenty of opportunities to collaborate and build together on projects, tools, or resources that benefit multiple communities. I believe setting goals now to bring everyone together is premature. But I would like to encourage and remove the idea that cross-distribution collaboration is impossible. Opening our minds to the prospect of working with other communities is the first step towards making it a reality. Discouraging snide remarks or comments about work happening in other communities is one small step towards bringing us towards us together.

Warning: This blog post includes instructions for a procedure that can lead you to lock yourself out of your computer. Even if everything goes well, you'll be hunted by dragons. Keep backups, have a rescue system on a USB stick, and wear flameproof clothing. Also, have fun, and tell your loved ones you love them.

I mean, we can certainly stop developing Fedora, because of fear that
fixing things might break apps we never heard of that rely on a very
specific bug or misdesign in some very specific software. But I am not
convinced that fear-driven development is really the best strategy to
win the future...
