Statement of netfilter project on GPL enforcement
The netfilter project declared its official endorsement of the Principles of Community-Oriented GPL Enforcement as published by the Software Freedom Conservancy and the Free Software Foundation. "The software of the netfilter project is primarily released under the GNU General Public License. We strongly believe that license compliance is an important factor in the Free Software model. In the absence of voluntary license compliance, license enforcement is a necessary tool to ensure all parties adhere to the same set of fair rules as set forth by the license."
FSF: Protect your privacy
The Free Software Foundation has issued a call for action to oppose amendments to Rule 41 of the US Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure that threaten internet privacy. The changes will go into effect December 1 unless a bipartisan bill called the Stopping Mass Hacking Act is approved. "The FSF opposes these changes and — in spite of its misleading use of the word "hacking" — supports the Stopping Mass Hacking Act (S. 2952, H.R. 5321), bipartisan legislation that would block the changes. The two bills are currently under review by the Judiciary Committees of the US Senate and House. **Take action: Free software activists around the world can tell the US Congress to pass the Stopping Mass Hacking Act** by using the EFF's No Global Warrants tool or by looking up your representatives if you're in the US. Not in the US? Raise your concerns with your government representative."
FSF's Defective by Design campaign continues to oppose Web DRM standard
The Free Software Foundation reports that Encrypted Media Extensions (EME), a proposed technological standard for web-based DRM, has moved to the next phase of development within the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). "The EME standardization effort, sponsored by streaming giants like Google and Netflix, aims to take advantage of the W3C's influence over Web technology to make it cheaper and more efficient to impose DRM systems. As of yesterday, the EME proposal is now upgraded from Working Draft to Candidate Recommendation within the W3C's process. Under the W3C's rules there are at least three more chances to pull the plug on EME before it becomes a ratified standard, also known as a W3C Recommendation."

The Document Foundation and the Free Software Foundation Europe have both released announcements supporting the Software Heritage project.
TDF: "Software Heritage is an
essential building block for preserving, enhancing
and sharing the scientific and technical knowledge that is increasingly
embedded in software; it also contributes to our ability to access all the
information stored in digital form.
"
FSFE:
"The Heritage stores only Free Software, in other words, software that
can be used, studied, adapted and shared freely with others; and this is
because the Software Heritage initiative relies on being able to share
the software it stores. The Software Heritage website is designed to be
a useful tool for professionals, scientists, educators and end-users.
