IPv6 isn't a hard requirement, all you need is to poke one hole in a NAT for Dovecot, have strict TLS on both ends, and a decent dynamic DNS setup (probably already the case, you're running a home mail server after all :)

As much as I'd like to have IPv6 too, my ISP's of the sort that refuses to acknowledge it even exists...
