Linux World names Indian amongst global Linux luminaries

Linux World Magazine, one of the leading global authorities on Linux, has
ranked India's Rahul Chopra, Editor, Linux For You, as one of the world's
twenty Linux luminaries. He has been highlighted for his contribution to the
area of Linux and open source software. The January issue of Linux World
names him amongst global Linux luminaries and publishes his future vision and
interview.

The 20 luminaries listing released by the journal features some of the
greatest advocates of Linux and the open source movement. These include Eric
Raymond (Open Source Initiative), John Terpstra (co-founder Samba project),
Tom Adelstein of Government Forge; Tom Barton of Rackable Systems; Wim
Coekaerts of Oracle; Chris DiBona of Konstrux Technologies; Brian Ferguson of
McDermott, Will & Emery; Samuel Greenblatt of Computer Associates; Adam
Jollans of IBM; Chandler Kant of LinuxCertified, Inc.; Ranajit Nevatia of
Veritas; Andy Oram of O'Reilly & Associates; Eric Raymond of Open Source
Initiative; Thomas Reardon of Openwave Systems; Jordan Rosen of Lille Corp.;

for the growing number of Linux professionals and corporate IT managers.

On achieving this unique distinction, says, Mr. Rahul Chopra, "India's
contribution to the global IT industry has always been highlighted. Indians
contribute most in the arena of commercial software. This is for the first
time that our efforts towards the open source movement are appreciated and
acknowledged. While I am thrilled by the honor, I believe that many more
Indians will shine in this aspect of Information Technology as well."

Launched in Feb 2003, Linux For You is the world's seventh magazine dedicated
to Linux, and the first in Asia! It caters to the multifarious reading
interests of new and experienced Linux users, developers, IT implementers and

Indian version of Linux. LiFY has become one of the most widely distributed
operating systems in India. Some of the versions of LiFY include educational,
multilingual, administrative and developer.

To reiterate Linux's acceptability and popularity in India, Chopra quotes the
example of hundreds of government schools in Madhya Pradesh that have
switched to Linux. While Mantralaya in Mumbai adopted Linux some time back,
Delhi's civil courts moved to the software a couple of months back. Linux For
You is organizing Linux Asia - the largest ever event on Linux and open
source software from February 11-13, 2004 in New Delhi. OSDN, MAIT, ASSOCHAM,
PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Computer Society of India, and
