MIT Media Lab defaults to free & open source software (NetworkWorld)
NetworkWorld reports that software developed at MIT Media Lab will be open source by default. "This effort does away with developers having to get such licenses approved first by an internal committee, which [Lab Director Joi Ito] says "always allowed our developers to open-source their work" anyway."

Call For Proposals for DebConf16
DebConf will take place July 2-9 in Cape Town, South Africa. The call for proposals deadline is May 1.Linux Security Summit 2016 - CFP
The Linux Security Summit (LSS) will take place August 25-26 in Toronto, Canada. The call for papers closes June 10.PyConZA 2016 - Call for Speakers
PyConZA 2016 will take place October 6-7 in Cape Town, South Africa. The call for proposals is open. No specific deadline is given but accepted speakers should be notified by September 9. "The presentation slots will be 30 minutes long, with an additional 10 minutes for discussion at the end. Shared sessions are also possible. The presentations will be in English." PyConZA also offers a mentorship program for inexperienced speakers.
