It's also one reason, however, why most of that work has never quite managed to find its way into the upstream Linux kernel for most users to run, and why presentations like those at Kernel Summit have had such a hard time getting traction in the past. When the presentation, pitch, and general ability to collaborate is part of the standard process for getting code into the upstream kernel, commenting on it is not unreasonable, any more than it's unreasonable to comment on upstream's own failings at basic civility and decency.

why, is upstream known for its basic civility and decency? have you even read the WP post under discussion, never mind past lkml traffic?

I think you read my comment as the inverse of what I said: I was explicitly stating that upstream is *not* known for its civility or decency, and that it's not unreasonable to comment on that either.
