throwing money at the problem is a figure of speech, it means to actually pay the right people who know what they are doing to enable them to do what they're doing best. whether it's me personally or not is not the relevant point, but i happen to have the experience of the past 15 years to know how much time it takes to do research and develop these kinds of defense mechanisms and i'm telling you that it's no longer your weekend project that i'm sure many people would otherwise be glad to spend on this for free (as i have done so myself for all this time). the thousands of hours mentioned above was not a figure of speech however, that's what it would (and will, if this new kernel self protection thing is a serious effort) take to bring grsec features into mainline and that's not counting my most recent defense mechanism (RAP) that i developed over the past 4 years (which alone was a few thousand unpaid hours). so yes, no money - no security, this has not been a hobbyist's world for a long time now and i guess most people didn't notice only because of the likes of us who had stretched themselves out to unimaginable proportions but all that is coming to an end now. interesting times ahead for sure.
