The "GitHub Enterprise" product is a VM image that one can use to run a local instance of GitHub using a local server or an EC2 instance.

Yeah, except it is *expensive*. If you're hosting your own FOSS projects, $25/contributor/month isn't cheap. And it is done because Github.clm doesn't allow you to have custom githooks (as in arbitrary code, not a menu of limited options) nor disable the merge button in any meaningful way.

It is expensive, and GitHub Enterprise does not allow custom git hooks or disabling of the merge button either.

The comment was intended as a correction, since the stating that you can't run GitHub locally is not accurate, not an endorsement of the product.
