PulseAudio pretty much "just worked" from day 1 too ... it's just that its dependencies didn't ... (says me who, gentoo user, still hasn't configured/setup PA - if it isn't set up by default it isn't on my system ...)

Following the dbus mess, I get the impression it's a complicated use mess, made worse by the fact a lot of people don't want to install its dependencies for one reason or another ... (systemd for example ...).
