We have exciting news for you: a new Executive Director, more public
Ally Skills Workshops, and a new graphic novel about Ada Lovelace! Keep
reading for more details.
** Introducing Crystal Huff! **
We're so excited to introduce you to our new Executive Director, Crystal
Huff!
The Ada Initiative is now four years old, and our beloved programs -
AdaCamp, Ally Skills training, and our essential anti-harassment work - are
going from strength to strength, and Crystal has joined us to take them to
the next level and to help us increase our impact for women in open
technology and culture.
Crystal has a long history of both professional and volunteer work in
various parts of open techno logy and culture, with a particular commitment
to anti-harassment work. She takes the place of our former Executive
Director and co-founder, Valerie Aurora, who is staying with the Ada
Initiative as Director of Training in charge of Ally Skills Workshops and
similar classes. Under Crystal's leadership, the Ada Initiative's programs
will continue to grow in reach and impact, while staying focused on women
in open tech/culture and anti-harassment.
** Ally Skills, far and wide! Want to teach it? **
Our Ally Skills Workshop teaches men simple, everyday ways to support women
in their workplaces and communities. Participants learn techniques that work
at the office, at conferences, and online.
Demand for our Ally Skills Workshop is growing and growing, and sharing ally
skills far and wide means that we are teaching new faciliators to run the
workshop, so that they can offer it in their own communities. We'd love to see
Ally Skills spreading in fandom, open data, Wikipedia communities, remix
culture and more!
To that end, we're keeping our fundraising promise in 2014: WisCon 2015 will
have a free Ally Skills train-the-trainers session! Registration is open
to the public, apply today to learn to teach Ally Skills workshops in your
own communities:

If you're interested in attending the workshop and improving your ally
skills, we're hosting two workshops at conferences in the next months
at no charge to attendees: a workshop for OpenStack attendees on May
18; and a workshop for ICFP attendees in August. Or email
contact@adainitiative.org for a quote for holding the Ally Skills
workshop at your event or organization.

** Too much Ada Lovelace is never enough! **
The Ada Initiative are huge fans of artist Sydney Padua, creator of the
comic The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage . Sydney's not
nearly well-known enough as one of the foremost experts on Ada Lovelace's life
and work (spread the word!)
Sydney has supported the Ada Initiative since 2011, when she donated
signed Lovelace and Baggage prints to our donors. Now you can get a
beautiful graphic novel of The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and
Babbage - find out why it's been on the New York Times Best Seller
list all week!

We'd like to thank Sydney again for all her support and hope that everyone is
as excited to have a copy of her book as we are!
** Coming up soon! **
Keep an eye out for more Ada Initiative news soon, including applications for
the next AdaCamp and free Ada Initiative Impostor Syndrome workshops in San
Francisco and Sydney!
