Ready for SCALE 13x?

    As we see the holiday season growing smaller in our
proverbial rear-view mirror, the SCALE Team has been busy with
preparations for SCALE 13x, the first-of-the-year Linux/FOSS expo in
North America. Here are some initial developments:

Early-bird Registration Ends Jan. 15: Yes, you have six days from
today to take advantage of the discount prices for SCALE 13x – after
Thursday, Jan. 15, the prices for registration go to their original
levels. The discount levels for SCALE 13x which are good until
Thursday are $60 for a Full Expo Pass and $10 for an Expo Only pass.
On Friday, the rates return to their regular level, so register now

Linux Basics Class: Want to learn Linux or know someone who wants to?
SCALE 13x welcomes you to our intense one-day introduction to Linux
System Administration, taught by trainers from OneCourseSource. The
class starts with a morning of installation and continues into the
afternoon with training with hands-on system administration tasks. The
course is limited to 20 students and the $60 fee is not eligible for

UpSCALE Talks: While the session schedules are being finalized, there
is still a chance for you to submit an UpSCALE talk. Patterned after
the Lightning Talks popularized at O'Reilly events, UpSCALE Talks give
participants five minutes to speak on a topic accompanied by 20
automatically-advanced slides. It's a fast-paced, fun event for both

SCALE 13x is now a four-day event and will be held from Feb. 19-22 at
the Hilton Los Angeles Airport hotel. SCALE has negotiated a special
