=== Riccardo Padovani: Ubuntu Phone seen by my friends ===
Riccardo Padovani shares some feedback he's received from his
university friends who aren't studying tech and "know about Ubuntu
only because [he is] involved." Positives include fluidity and ability
to multitask, but he noted the lack of the WhatsApp application and a
confusing unlock screen as some weaknesses. He concludes "I'm more
than happy with the results: Ubuntu Phone seems ready for all, and
this is a good point where we could start to build. We have simply to
continue on that way, and we will change the world, bit by bit, mind
by mind."

=== Joe Liau: Dumb is Dead: Snappy is the New Smart ===
Continuing a series about dumb phones, Joe now focuses on the new
"snappy" Ubuntu Core which features transactional, image-based updates
and shares a video of Mark Shuttleworth introducing the product.

Jonathan Riddell informs us that due to a server move, Kubuntu Wire is
down so reproduces a Wire post written by Ilya Kowalewski in which he
mentions Kubuntu 15.04 Alpha 1, Plasma 5, and KDE Frameworks 5,5,0.
Ilya quotes several sources including Softpedia, Linux Veda, and a
Kubuntu user who says: "Stable, and now hooked on Kubuntu's KDE
plasma. Christmas gift, and Happy Holidays, New Year 2015 and beyond
to you and yours."

illustrate its small size, and says that 64-bit Ubuntu was soon
installed on it.

=== Forums Council: Super Moderators ===
The Forums Council informs us that they have decided to mentor a group
of Super Moderators who will have access to the Administrator Control
Panel. They say: "With the advent of the SSO login, we've found that
more and more time is spent just trying to help people log into and
use the forums. The only way to actually deal with these issues is
from the Administrator Control Panel."

She finishes by referring to two presentations she gave during the
year for those without programming experience and who might wish to
contribute to Ubuntu.

=== Stuart Langridge: Ubuntu Component Store, redux 2 ===
Stuart Langridge writes that he came up with an idea of how an Ubuntu
Component Store could work but that it required a server which
maintains accounts. He says that he then came up with an alternative
that must be hosted on Launchpad and demonstrates how it works.

When taking his son out for ice cream on his birthday Ted Gould,

manager of the ice cream shop Braum's asked a few questions about
Ubuntu, as he was using it on his desktop and had installed it on his
phone for full time use. He said, describing his favorite feature, "I
love how much it's the same as the computer version. I'm trying to get
a business off the ground, have four kids and I have to keep this
place running. I don't have time to keep a different model of how two
things work."

given to desktop Linux in 2014 and writes that tablets serve the needs
of most users and: "Combine that with better battery life, smaller,
lighter form factors and you can understand why Canonical spent the
better part of year working on its mobile interface."
