I think org-mode has lured more new people to emacs than any feature added in the last decade. It fulfills more of Ted Nelson's dream of read/write hypertext than anything that has existed. It is a fantastically useful tool, more or less a superset of markdown, and should be turned to emacs's advantage. Rather than replacing one cripplingly obsolete format with another, emacs should push forward with adopting org-mode throughout.

IMHO.

It is used today to generate lovely tex presentations, html, and so on, but the real power is the integrated lisp throughout.

the power of org-mode seduces anyone that ever once used a competent outliner, like more. It keeps me IN emacs, using it, logging my time, scheduling reminders (with a single keystroke) and focused on the task at hand.
