There have been other cases where the kernel break things and the kernel devs aren't really that enthusiastic about fixing it.

I have a list of perf_event ABI breaks, but most of them only broke my test suite and not much actual deployed code so I only did a moderate amount of complaining (none of the changes were reverted).

I've had more problems from the ARM decision to drop bogomips values from /proc/cpuinfo which broke actual useful (though arguably could have been written in other, better, ways) code.
