Mh, software may not wear, but for sure if nobody maintains it new bugs get discovered and no bug gets fixed, so I can easily sympathize with the Debian GNOME team not wanting to take the blame for ConsoleKit's bugs when a better alternative exists.

ConsoleKit2 is a *very* recent development, but it's nice that someone finally picked up the ball and probably will be considered in the future (AFAIK no stable releases have been done yet, see https://github.com/ConsoleKit2/ConsoleKit2/releases ).

I was not aware of the Oracle fork, but I just don't want to think about what those people who talk about RedHat conspiracies will say when the proposed alternative is Oracle. :/
