Something I personally would not take lightly and would immediately propose or insist that at some point in the development cycle GR's would be put on Freeze until after release to prevent misuse of the process and distracting people from doing their work.

If you look at the debian-vote mailing list it seems that 95% or more of Debian developers aren't bothered by the GR. At least it doesn't seem to distract them to a point where they feel the need to add to the discussion. The whole thing really seems to be a tempest in a teacup. We'll see how the vote comes out when it comes out.
